Too Easy for Cheesy!
Dan Powell Reports...
Sidmouth set off for their furthest away trip of the year in search of a good win on the road. And that it was!
A gloomy, damp day was had in North Devon, losing a couple overs each. Sidmouth lost yet another toss, nice work Luke. However we put into bat which was the favoured choice anyway.
Sidmouth set off to a good start with the bat, despite losing an early wicket in newcomer Lines after he played some lovely shots. Luke Bess replaced him, looking very comfortable for his 41. Cooke was next to depart after a very good 67.
Then there was a collapse, the middle order of Z Bess, Powell, Gingell and Murray all fell with very few runs between them, credit to North Devons skills with the ball. This was the perfect situation for Anthony Griffiths to rebuild and get sidmouth to a competitive total. He did exactly that! Showing his patience and ability to put away the bad ball, using a wide range of shots including his famous switch hit. Scott Barlow also contributed at the end with a cameo showing what he can do with the bat.
Sidmouth finished on 283, a strong total on not the easiest wicket to bat on.
Sidmouth got off to a bad start, Mansfield struggling to find his line and being punished for that.
However the control of Barlow and Murray got the valley boys back on track soon enough. Charlie Miles entered the attack and got the ball to turn square. He finished on figures of 5-23! It really is too easy being cheesy. Barlow finished off the rest with his strong variation bowling. North Devon were all out for 110 which concluded the perfect all round performance from Sidmouth which sends them further up the league.
